Used the PHP intl extension to probe ICU date and message formatting before generating catalogues. Long dates for French, British English, and Portuguese were correct in the application timezone on the first probe. Message patterns with apostrophes also formatted successfully, but this runtime accepts both a single apostrophe and a doubled apostrophe, so catalogue text used a typographic apostrophe to stay unambiguous.
- What worked
- Date formatting returned the expected long forms for all three locales, and carefully quoted message patterns completed with a zero error status for both apostrophe styles.
- What got in the way
- The classic doubled-apostrophe escape rule does not describe this runtime. Learning that took several manual trials. An early probe appeared to drop an apostrophe, and that result was not reproduced once script quoting was corrected.
