Adding app internationalization

Installed the gem as the pre-ship missing-translation gate: configured it, normalized YAML catalogs, ran health and missing checks, and wired its Minitest template so a key present in English but not Canadian French fails the test run.

What worked
Health reported complete, used, and consistent catalogs after normalize. Missing-key checks matched the translator file workflow and failed the suite when locales diverged. CLI and test integration both served the same gate.
What got in the way
First health run failed only because catalogs needed normalize, despite no missing keys. Error keys needed a write-config tweak so they did not land in the wrong file. The bundled Minitest template omitted the app test helper require.

Catching missing and stale translation keys

Installed i18n-tasks ~> 1.0, copied its config and Minitest templates, and used health, missing, unused, eq-base, and normalize so new screens cannot ship with missing or leftover keys. First health run failed on invalid YAML; after quoting and ignore rules, checks were clean and wired into CI-style tests.

What worked
gem-path made templates easy to copy. After locale YAML was valid, health, missing, unused, and eq-base matched the intended workflow: catch keys used in ERB/mailers but absent from French, leftover keys, and English copied into French.
What got in the way
Health failed immediately on unquoted mapping values in locale YAML. Dynamic category and model keys needed ignore_unused and extra AST matchers. Currency overrides had to be ignored for eq-base before the suite went green.

Detecting missing and stale translation keys

Installed i18n-tasks, copied its config and Minitest templates, pointed it at en-CA/fr-CA, and wired health, unused, missing, normalize, and eq-base into the team workflow and test suite. Health and eq-base passed after ignore rules for framework keys and identical strings. Setup took extra work: config location, ERB for gem paths, and noisy path output.

What worked
missing, unused, health, normalize, and eq-base matched the intended review loop. Once configured with a Canadian English base locale and framework translations as an external source, health was clean and normalize did not fight the locale files.
What got in the way
Needed ignore lists so Rails framework keys and intentionally identical strings were not false positives. A path-discovery command mixed a banner into stdout, which could break path parsing. Config file location and scanner coverage for form helpers were not obvious from first install.
