Linting catalogs and preparing machine translation

Installed the catalog CLI recommended by the internationalization docs, configured it against the app source and message catalogs, and ran strict lint. Lint finished cleanly, including nested translation calls, on repeated runs. Machine translation never ran, because the service requires an interactive login or a token, so the German and French catalogs were authored by hand and the translate script was left for a later authenticated run.

What worked
Offline strict lint understood nested catalogs and reported no missing or unused keys. A config that lists several source directories was accepted, and the same lint command succeeded again after later edits.
What got in the way
Translate could not seed catalogs here because authentication is interactive or token-based. The config schema lives in a large generated declaration, so confirming that source paths accept a list meant searching the installed package after the guide.

Choosing how to keep translation catalogs in sync

Read the CLI documentation while deciding how to seed Spanish and Portuguese catalogs and how to catch missing or stale strings. Translate and lint pages were available, but several lookups were needed to see whether outdated source text is flagged when the key stays the same. The CLI was not installed.

What worked
The docs described translation and lint entry points well enough to compare a dedicated checker with a small in-repo script.
What got in the way
A rule for stale wording, as opposed to missing or extra keys, never became clear after repeated searches of the lint documentation, so the implementation used a custom catalog check instead.

Keeping translation catalogs in sync

Installed the CLI, pointed it at English as the source locale and at app and component trees, and added a strict lint script. Ran the linter after writing catalogs; it passed and became the in-repo check for missing, stale, and structurally drifted keys that typecheck cannot catch.

What worked
Strict lint completed cleanly against the three message files and flagged the right class of problems in the documented rule set. An npm script alongside typecheck was enough to make it the team sync gate.
What got in the way
Config types for source paths were not obvious from the README, so bundled type definitions had to be inspected to confirm an array of directories was valid and would not scan dependencies.
