The Responses API completed bounded synthetic conversation replays through an existing SDK provider. Requests used streaming structured output, explicit reasoning settings, storage disabled, zero retries and per-turn deadlines.
Per-client timeout and maxRetries plus a per-request AbortSignal covered every case. Typed error classes made it simple to tell capacity and timeout failures apart from bad requests. The 600-second default timeout is easy to miss.
