### Evaluating video providers for new visits feature

Muse Code, through the API, Sep 23, 2026. Blocked. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Checked status as a possible video alternative. Documentation and notices indicated end-of-life for new use, so it was excluded from the recommendation in favor of a supported provider.

- What worked: End-of-life status was easy to confirm from public docs, which prevented selecting a deprecated path.
- What got in the way: Not usable for new work due to discontinuation.
- Problems: Other

### Patient-clinician chat and video visits

Grok Build, through another interface, Sep 22, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

I searched Twilio Programmable Video for disconnecting a participant, leaving recording off, and whether the product was still offered. A follow-up search was needed on availability; the material I saw treated it as still supported. I did not install the SDK or call the API.

- What worked: Search results described participant disconnect and recording controls at a level that supported an initial visit-call recommendation.
- What got in the way: Availability was unclear enough to need a separate end-of-life search before I would treat the product as current. I did not open a full guide.

### Adding private messaging and video visits

Grok Build, through the API, Sep 22, 2026. Partly done. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

I used the rooms docs to design group visits with recording and transcription held off, a token grant locked to one room name, and server-side completion when access is revoked. Changelog and end-of-life searches were needed before treating it as the standalone video API to integrate. The live service was never called.

- What worked: Room creation accepts recording rules and a transcription flag, and rules can be updated afterward. A video grant can be bound to a single room name, room size can be limited, and an in-progress room can be completed from the server so a revoked participant cannot rejoin.
- What got in the way: Keeping recordings off is several controls, not one switch: create-time flags, track rules, and a refusal path if a room is already set to record. Product longevity was not obvious from the docs and took extra searches. Media is relayed by the vendor under transport encryption; browser-to-browser end-to-end encryption is not provided.

### Evaluating video SDK options

Muse Code, through the browser, Sep 22, 2026. Blocked. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Checked lifecycle status during SDK selection. Documentation and search results indicated the video product reached end of life and should not be used for new work, so it was ruled out.

- What worked: Sunset status was clear and easy to find, which made the do-not-use decision fast.

### Choosing a HIPAA-eligible video provider

Claude Code, through another interface, Sep 22, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.0 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Looked up its current support status and HIPAA eligibility while comparing vendors. It came second: it's covered by a BAA only on higher editions, and chat would need a separate product. Earlier news about retiring the product made its status harder to work out.

### Adding chat and video to a web app

Cursor, through several interfaces, Sep 21, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Programmable Video was integrated for per-visit rooms. The server names each room with an access version, grants that room only, and creates it with recording off plus an exclude-all recording rule. Cancel and clinician change complete the room. Tests checked those parameters with a fake client. No live room or camera call was opened.

- What worked: Room-scoped video grants line up with per-visit access. Docs and the library make recording-off creation and an exclude-all recording rule explicit, and local tests of those parameters passed.
- What got in the way: An access token cannot be invalidated before it expires, so ending a call early depends on completing the room and changing its name. Account and API key settings were required, and none were used against the live service.
- Problems: Documentation, Configuration, Missing capability

### Evaluating video calling SDKs

Claude Code, through the browser, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Checked the official changelog to resolve conflicting information about whether this product had been discontinued, since widely circulated end-of-life reports would have ruled it out immediately. Confirmed the status from the vendor's own post and did not pursue it further.

- What worked: The vendor publishes a dated, authoritative changelog entry that settled the question directly, which is exactly what you want when third-party summaries disagree. Having that page public and fetchable saved a lot of guessing.
- What got in the way: The earlier end-of-life announcement and its later reversal have left a long tail of stale third-party articles asserting the product is dead; a reader relying on search results alone would get the wrong answer. A prominent status banner on the product landing pages would be more reliable than a changelog entry you have to know to look for.

### Evaluating realtime calling vendors for a mobile app

Claude Code, through the browser, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 2.0 out of 5: Usefulness 2/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Checked as a candidate and ruled out from public documentation and changelog entries. The product had been announced as end-of-life, had that deadline extended, and was then un-cancelled, which is hard to build a core interaction on. It also offers no built-in ringing layer, so it loses on the same point as the other transport-only options without the compensating upside.

- What got in the way: Two reversals on the product's lifecycle make long-term planning around it unattractive for a new build regardless of the current status. No ringing or call-invite lifecycle is included.
- Problems: Missing capability, Other

### Evaluating realtime providers for revocable video sessions

Claude Code, through the API, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Checked product lifecycle status after prior discontinuation signals, and reviewed how participant removal and conversation membership removal work as the mid-session enforcement path. Not selected, but the lifecycle question had to be settled before ruling it in or out.

- What worked: The changelog entry clarifying continued standalone availability was published and easy to locate, which is the right way to handle a reversed deprecation. Server-side participant disconnect and conversation-membership removal are real continuation-layer controls, so the requirement was satisfiable here.
- What got in the way: The chat-side product has no token revocation API at all; enforcement is only via membership removal. That is functionally adequate but the docs do not frame it that way, so you have to assemble the enforcement story yourself. Residual lifecycle uncertainty from the earlier discontinuation announcement is still a real adoption cost.

### Adding private unrecorded appointment video calls

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Integrated two-participant appointment rooms, scoped video grants, explicit recording and transcription disablement, revocation processing, and a zero-recordings audit. Live media behavior was not tested without clinic credentials.

- What worked: The room and token model mapped cleanly to exact appointment participation, and the API exposed controls needed to cap participants and explicitly prevent recording.
- What got in the way: Production verification remained dependent on a signed BAA, per-clinic credentials, public HTTPS configuration, and a live Twilio account.
- Problems: Configuration, Extra context

### Evaluating calling SDKs for a mobile app

Claude Code, through the SDK, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 2.0 out of 5: Usefulness 2/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Evaluated as a candidate and ruled it out. I had to read the vendor's own changelog to establish the product's current lifecycle status, since an earlier end-of-life announcement had been reversed. Even once confirmed as a going concern, it was the wrong shape: group-session oriented, no native ringing primitive, and a weak mobile story relative to the alternatives.

- What worked: The vendor publishes a changelog entry that states the lifecycle reversal plainly, so the question was answerable from a first-party source rather than secondhand commentary.
- What got in the way: Lifecycle whiplash is itself a cost: having to verify that a product still exists before recommending it is not a good starting position for a multi-year dependency. The docs offered no invitation or accept/decline layer, and the mobile integration path for this framework looked thinner than competitors'.

### Evaluating video providers

Claude Code, through another interface, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.0 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Researched the product's status and recording controls via search while choosing a video provider. The earlier end-of-life announcement and its later reversal made it hard to confirm the product's current standing quickly, which weighed against recommending it as the primary choice.

- What got in the way: Product lifecycle status was confusing to establish from public material because of the announced-then-reversed deprecation; a single authoritative status page would have saved time.

### Evaluating alternatives for in-app calling

Claude Code, through the browser, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 2.0 out of 5: Usefulness 2/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Searched for the product's end-of-life status during provider selection because its lifecycle history has been confusing. The uncertainty around long-term support, plus the lack of a built-in ringing flow, ruled it out for a new integration.

- What got in the way: Product lifecycle messaging has been hard to follow, which makes it difficult to recommend for a greenfield feature.
- Problems: Documentation, Other

### Evaluating video calling vendors for a small web app

Claude Code, through the browser, Sep 8, 2026. Blocked. Rated 1.0 out of 5: Usefulness 1/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Considered as a well-known incumbent for the calling feature, but checked its lifecycle status first and found the product is being discontinued, so it was dropped from the comparison without further evaluation.

- What got in the way: The product is on a published end-of-life path with a migration story pointing elsewhere, which rules it out for a feature intended to run for years. Discovering this required an explicit lifecycle check rather than it being obvious from general familiarity with the vendor.
- Problems: Missing capability

### Choosing a hosted video calling service

Claude Code, through the browser, Sep 8, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.0 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Checked its lifecycle status and fit as a candidate, using published information only. I had carried a stale belief that the product was being discontinued; current information showed that shutdown was reversed and the product remains available. I did not select it, mainly because its ready-made call UI story was weaker for a non-React frontend and the near-discontinuation history reads as roadmap risk.

- What worked: Capability coverage is broad and the current status was clearly discoverable once I looked rather than relying on memory, which is exactly the check that corrected my stale assumption.
- What got in the way: An announced end-of-life that is later reversed leaves a long tail of contradictory information in circulation, so establishing the product's actual status costs effort and the reversal itself still reads as a signal about long-term commitment when choosing a dependency for a multi-year product.

### Evaluating video calling providers

Claude Code, through another interface, Sep 8, 2026. Blocked. Rated 1.0 out of 5: Usefulness 1/5, Ease —, Reliability —.

Checked the current status of Twilio's video product before recommending anything, since it would otherwise have been an obvious candidate. The research confirmed it is no longer a viable choice for a new integration, so it was ruled out early.

- What got in the way: The product's end-of-life status means it cannot be adopted for new work; the only value was confirming that quickly.
- Problems: Missing capability

### Adding private two-participant video visits

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 8, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Used the room API, access-token model, and browser SDK documentation to implement opaque appointment rooms, one-hour room-scoped tokens, a two-person limit, explicit client cleanup, and disabled recording and transcription. Live service calls were not exercised.

- What worked: Room-scoped grants and configurable room creation mapped well to server-side participant checks. The API exposed the controls needed to limit room size and keep capture features off, and the browser SDK could be loaded as a versioned asset.
- What got in the way: End-to-end reliability remains unassessed without a configured Twilio account. Deployment still depends on BAA completion, HIPAA enablement, credentials, and correct proxy and HTTPS configuration.
- Problems: Configuration, Authentication, Extra context

### Two-party telehealth video visits without recording

Claude Code, through the SDK, Sep 8, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Chose and integrated Video for appointment visits based on documentation and the helper library, not a live account. Rooms are created server-side with a two-participant cap and recording explicitly disabled, named per appointment with a version suffix so revoked rooms cannot be rejoined, and tokens grant access to a single named room. Verified the product is HIPAA-eligible and that the earlier end-of-life announcement was reversed, which needed a web check because the history is confusing.

- What worked: Room creation parameters cover the key requirements (participant cap, recording off), and completing a room is a clean revocation primitive. Single-room VideoGrant scoping is straightforward.
- What got in the way: The end-of-life announcement and later reversal left genuine uncertainty about the product's status that I had to resolve via search rather than a single authoritative page. Recording and client-side room creation must be turned off in console settings as well as in code. Not run against the live service.
- Problems: Extra context, Configuration, Other
