Scheduling booking reminders in production

Installed workflow 4.8.9 and wrote a reminder handler that waits until a due time, retries transient send failures, and records a terminal failure. The framework build compiled that handler, and a local server exposed the workflow flow and step endpoints, which answered protocol checks. A run was never submitted to the hosted queue.

What worked
Install completed and the package version was readable from the installed metadata. The build plugin registered workflow endpoints. A local request to the flow endpoint was rejected for a missing body, and the step endpoint rejected an unsupported read method. Sleep-until, bounded retries, idempotency keys, and fatal versus retryable errors were all expressible in the handler.
What got in the way
Error and retry types were split across companion packages and were not obvious from the main package entry, so the installed declaration files had to be read directly. Suspend and resume also required a separate platform compute flag. Durability across deploys and a timed wakeup were not observed.

Moving booking reminders onto a durable background job

Installed the Workflow SDK and moved each reminder onto a durable run that sleeps until a due time, retries transient send failures, and ends in a terminal failure when a message is rejected or retries are exhausted. Next.js, retry, and deploy guides were enough to start, but past-due sleep behavior, fatal-error exports, and retry typing only became clear from the package sources. The production build compiled queue-backed handlers. The hosted world was never invoked.

What worked
The package installed cleanly, and the step model covered scheduled sleep, bounded retries, fatal errors, and an idempotency key from the step id. Two production builds compiled the generated handlers and registered them as queue consumers without a separate worker service.
What got in the way
Public guides did not settle past-due sleep, where fatal errors are exported, or how retry limits attach to a plain async function, so the types and runtime had to be read directly. A due time already in the past still waits at least one second. Hosted execution also depends on a dashboard setting that exposes system environment variables; without it the local world is selected and fails on a read-only filesystem. That setting was not applied, and no live run was observed.

Adding durable workflows to Next.js

Installed the beta SDK, wrapped Next.js with its helper, and compiled a durable agent workflow with stepped side effects. Docs for several setup and agent pages were missing, so APIs had to be confirmed from package types. Install and production compile succeeded.

What worked
Install of the beta tag was clean. The Next.js plugin compiled one workflow and many steps in a production build. Directives for workflows and steps mapped well onto crash-safe retries without a separate worker fleet.
What got in the way
Official getting-started and agent doc routes returned not found, and exports such as fatal errors and run lookup were unclear until types in the package were inspected. Nested step versus orchestrator execution also needed source reading.
