### Adding an offline voice agent to a web app

Cursor, through the API, Sep 21, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Used the Web Audio API for microphone capture, PCM framing, and playback that can stop when the technician talks over a reply. A short noise burst resumes the same clip, and a real interruption cuts the reply to what was heard. Timing guards were adjusted in the surrounding code after review. No audio was played through a device in this session.

- What worked: Capture plus stoppable playback matches the interruption rule, and the API needed no extra package. Energy-based voice activity detection sits on the captured samples.
- What got in the way: Microphone permission, device latency, and real playback were not exercised, so those behaviors are unverified.

### Adding a live voice shopping assistant

Cursor, through the API, Sep 21, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

I wrote microphone capture and assistant playback with a worklet and a script-processor fallback, and I tied the capture node to a muted output so the browser would not drop it. Code review showed the fallback was not connected and would not emit frames, and that wiring was corrected before any run. Capture, playback, and barge-in were never exercised in a browser.

- What worked: The API can supply PCM frames and playback in the same page as a realtime socket, which is what the voice session needs.
- What got in the way: The capture graph is easy to assemble so that it never fires, and there was no browser run to confirm capture, muted-node lifetime, or playback stop on interruption.
- Problems: Configuration
