Adding submission storage and a grading queue

Fetched the network pricing page and its internet egress section to decide whether grader reads should stay in-region. Both fetches succeeded and supported keeping object reads off public egress. No network was created, and no traffic was measured.

What worked
The egress section was directly addressable and enough to justify in-region reads in the cost recommendation.

Keeping the search service on private networking

Modeled private addressing, subnet integration, and scoped firewall access for a search node reachable from the existing application runtime. Existing production network inputs were intentionally left external.

What worked
Private networking kept the search API and index within the intended infrastructure boundary.
What got in the way
The design depends on production-specific network and subnet context that was not present in the repository.

Providing private connectivity between applications and search nodes

Defined a dedicated subnet, stable internal addresses, restricted API and peer traffic, and direct serverless VPC egress. Terraform validated the model, but connectivity and identity permissions were not tested in a live project.

What worked
The configuration could narrowly scope client and cluster-member traffic while keeping the search service off the public network.

Providing private connectivity for database replication

Designed private connectivity variables and resources for Datastream to reach the PostgreSQL source. The repository lacked concrete network topology, so the design required documented environment-specific inputs and possible proxying.

What worked
The private connection model supported keeping replication traffic off public endpoints.
What got in the way
Source reachability across managed-service networking was the least straightforward part of the design and could not be proven without the target VPC, address ranges, and routing setup.
