Installed the workflow package, wrapped the Next config, and implemented three workflows so cancel, reminder, and waitlist fan-out leave the request. start, use step, sleep, and createHook matched the one-hour sequential-offer design. Local production build compiled three workflows and fifteen steps. Live runs were not executed.
- What worked
- npm install and withWorkflow were enough to register workflows at build time. start returned immediately from server actions, sleep covered the hour-long offer window without holding a request, and step isolation with retries fit a flaky one-message-at-a-time relay.
- What got in the way
- APIs were scattered: FatalError, createHook, and workflow metadata required hunting package types. The orchestrator cannot import use-server modules or Node-only clients, so steps had to live in a separate file. Sandbox limits ruled out some formatting helpers. Next 16 needed a current package major.
