Installed Translate Toolkit and used its converters to turn catalogs into XLIFF and back. The commands expect input and output flags rather than positional paths. Default export wrote XLIFF 1.1, so the files had to be rewritten to version 1.2 after export. With those adjustments, a round trip preserved message ids and a fresh export produced version 1.2 files.
- What worked
- Help text made the flag style clear. The library reads both XLIFF 1.1 and 1.2, and import restored a catalog after a corrected export. A later export confirmed the rewritten files were version 1.2 and contained message ids rather than personal records.
- What got in the way
- There was no obvious switch to emit XLIFF 1.2, which the handoff required. Confirming the default meant reading the installed storage module and rewriting the version and namespace on the written file. Positional arguments were rejected.
