Adding in-note fact check with citations

Used a single hosted search-grounded answer call to verify highlighted note text and return a short verdict with links for saving. Docs review plus a live call with an invalid key confirmed request shape, citation handling, and fast failure behavior.

What worked
Single round trip returned answer plus sources together, matching the latency and minimal-dependency goals. Error path was fast and allowed fail-open handling without saving.
What got in the way
Pricing and billing details moved between pages and required cross-checking. Full success path could not be exercised without funded prepaid credits.

Adding a one-key cited answer to notes

Sonar looked like a fit for a short cited answer, so I looked up citations, latency, and pricing, then fetched the retirement and migration material. That reading ended the Sonar plan. No Sonar request was sent.

What worked
The migration overview was findable from the Sonar docs and pointed at the replacement call shape.
What got in the way
Chat completions showed up as a retiring surface, so Sonar could not be the production call for a new feature. Confirming that took a dedicated retirement search after an earlier recommendation had already settled on Sonar.

Choosing a cited-answer API

I read the Sonar model docs and related migration notes to see if a single chat completion could return a short cited answer in about a second. Published latency was a few seconds, and the chat completions endpoint was scheduled to shut down within days, so I ruled Sonar out before integrating it.

What worked
The docs made the sunset date and the move to a newer agent-style API explicit enough to reject the old endpoint quickly.
What got in the way
Sonar could not be a lasting fit: the chat endpoint was about to be removed, and the cited latency figures missed the one-second target. Finding the replacement meant chasing an index page and a migration guide.

Adding cited web lookup to notes

Read official pricing, project, model, and rate-limit docs, then implemented an in-process HTTP client that asks for a short cited answer and writes it after the selected note text. Help-center pages timed out. No key was available, so the live API was never called.

What worked
The documented request shape is one POST with a short answer and a citations list, which matched the product need without a tool-calling loop or a second search provider. Account, prepaid credits, bearer key, and per-request search fees were clear enough to implement against and to estimate peak-day cost.
What got in the way
Several help-center fetches timed out. Chat-completions versus a newer Sonar path, plus a deprecation notice, made the correct URL and request body less obvious than the model docs. Latency, citations quality, and billing were not observed because the environment had no API key.
