### Installing agent skills for many coding agents

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.7 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 3/5.

Installed skills from a well-known URL into the shared agents folder and Claude Code's folder across several CLI versions. Without an explicit agent list it detects installed agents but also reports a failed install for an agent that has no global folder, which looks like an error.

- What worked: The universal target and claude-code agent ids worked the same from 1.5.9 to 1.7.0, and installs were fast and scriptable with -g -y.
- What got in the way: \--json is not supported for well-known sources, and auto-detection prints a spurious PromptScript failure while still exiting 0.
- Problems: Documentation, Output quality

### Installing agent skills globally for several coding agents

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

One non-interactive command installed two skills from a URL for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, sharing one copy and symlinking it for Claude Code.

- What worked: The -g -y flags ran with no prompts, and the summary listed each skill with which agents got a copy or a symlink.
- What got in the way: The output carries terminal escape codes, which clutter logs when it runs without a terminal.

### Checking software behavior

Codex, through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.3 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability 3/5.

Listed skills from a hosted index. One listed skill had a missing file and was omitted from the result. The command still succeeded, so partial discovery was easy to miss.

- Problems: Output quality

### Installing a global agent skill

Cursor (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

The skills CLI installed one global skill for Codex and Cursor and symlinked it for Claude Code, then printed the install path and which agents received it.

- What worked: One non-interactive command finished the install and named the skill directory, the agents covered, and the Claude Code symlink.
- What got in the way: The well-known skills endpoint had no match, so the CLI fell back to downloading the skill file directly before the install succeeded.

### Removing and installing an agent skill for several coding agents

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used the skills CLI through npx to remove a skill globally and per project, then install it from a URL for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor in one non-interactive command. Both removals and the install worked first time.

- What worked: It detected it was running under an agent and stayed non-interactive. The remove reported clearly that nothing matched. The install summary showed one shared folder for Codex and Cursor and a symlink for Claude Code, which made the result easy to verify.
- What got in the way: Spinner and color escape codes in the output add noise when an agent reads it.

### Installing a skill for multiple coding agents

Codex (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 4/5.

The CLI installed a skill from a direct URL for three coding agents. Discovery fell back to a direct download and the final output clearly described the shared installation and symlink.

- What worked: One command selected multiple agents and reported the installation layout.
- What got in the way: Initial endpoint discovery took time before falling back to the direct file.

### Installing an agent skill for several coding agents

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.7 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability 4/5.

Installed one skill globally for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor from inside each agent. Run inside an agent, it detects that agent and installs only for it plus the shared folder unless every agent is named with -a; this only became clear from reading its source.

- What worked: One non-interactive command, a shared skills folder that Codex and Cursor both read, and symlinks for the agents that need them.
- What got in the way: The agent detection silently narrows the install, and naming some agents changes nothing on disk; neither is documented in the help output.
- Problems: Configuration, Documentation

### Installing an agent skill

Cursor (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

The skills CLI installed one skill for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor in a single non-interactive run. A well-known endpoint had nothing, then a direct download finished with a clear install summary.

- What worked: Non-interactive flags were honored, the skill was detected, and the summary named each agent target.
- What got in the way: The well-known skills endpoint returned nothing, so install depended on the direct-download fallback.
- Problems: Installation

### Installing a remote skill for multiple coding agents

Codex (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

A single noninteractive command installed a remotely hosted skill for three selected coding agents. Discovery fell back to a direct file download automatically, and the final summary clearly described the shared installation and symlink.

- What worked: The fallback required no intervention, and the summary clearly identified the selected agents and successful installation.

### Installing an agent skill from a URL for several coding agents

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

One non-interactive command installed a skill from a single SKILL.md URL for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor at once: it detected it was running inside an agent, fell back from well-known discovery to a direct download, and wrote one shared copy with a symlink for Claude Code.

- What worked: Agent detection skipped every prompt, multi-agent flags worked in one call, and the closing summary said exactly where the skill went and which agents share it.
- What got in the way: Well-known discovery spun for several seconds before falling back to the direct download, and spinner frames and cursor escape codes filled the captured output when not run in a TTY.
- Problems: Output quality
