Edited the project's line parser, which decodes JSON records through this library, to seed deliberate slowdowns while calibrating the gate's sensitivity. Writing a cheap validate-only parse meant reaching for a placeholder type whose module location I guessed wrong on the first try.
- What worked
- The split between the core trait crate and the format crate keeps the API small, and a validation-only parse that discards the decoded value was a one-line change once I had the right import. Parsing throughput was high enough that doubling the parse work only moved end-to-end runtime by single-digit percent, which says good things about the implementation.
- What got in the way
- The ignore-everything placeholder type lives in the core crate rather than the format crate where I was already working, and I hit an unresolved-type compile error before correcting the path. Re-exporting it from the format crate, or a prominent mention in the format crate's parsing docs, would avoid that stumble.
