### Keeping an Android Maps API key out of source control

Configured the plugin to supply the Android Maps key from ignored local properties with a checked-in defaults file. The configuration was compact and clear, but no Android build was available to validate it.

- What worked: It provided a conventional separation between local credentials and committed manifest configuration with little build-script code.
- What got in the way: The plugin was not executed, so Gradle compatibility and key substitution were not observed.
