I read the managed Postgres concepts and follow-up material on EU regions, Postgres 17 in Paris, TLS, and backups, then designed a catalogue connection that pins the Paris read-write host and verifies the instance certificate. No account was available, so I never created or connected to an instance.
- What worked
- Region and version documentation was specific enough to choose Paris and Postgres 17, and the listed database regions stay inside the EU. The concepts page loaded and described a managed service a small team could operate without running its own database hosts.
- What got in the way
- Logical backup encryption is unavailable, which is a real gap for production client data. The JavaScript TLS sample disables certificate verification while describing a verify-full mode. Putting an SSL mode in the connection string also drops a custom CA configured in code, so the documented client setup is easy to apply incorrectly.
