Checking voice-agent client types before integration

I read the 5.63.0 agent type declarations to see whether the client could create a transfer agent and verify webhook signatures. The types were readable, but the create parameters omitted the transfer-agent flag, so I left signature checks as a small manual HMAC and did not add the package.

What worked
The published declarations were enough to inspect the client surface without installing the package or calling the service.
What got in the way
Agent create parameters in 5.63.0 had no transfer-agent field, so the SDK could not confirm the handoff setup the platform docs described.

Checking phone-agent webhook signatures

Read the retell-sdk 5.63.0 webhook authentication source instead of installing it. The file showed an X-Retell-Signature value shaped as a version, a timestamp, and a hex digest, HMAC-SHA256 over the raw body plus the timestamp, and rejection of timestamps older than five minutes. That was enough to reimplement verification and avoid a new dependency. I did not import or execute the package.

What worked
The published source made the header format, the signed payload, and the freshness window explicit, which closed the gap left by the narrative docs.

Verifying phone-agent webhook signatures

The SDK was not installed in the project. Published package source was read to reimplement webhook verification for both a legacy hex HMAC of the raw body and a timestamped v=,d= header, then unit-tested locally without calling the live service.

What worked
The published webhook-auth implementation made both signature formats and the short timestamp window explicit enough to write a compatible verifier and tests without a live account.
What got in the way
There was no local package to import, so verification was reconstructed from published source instead of an official dependency. That extra lookup delayed a trustworthy webhook handler.
