Collecting public supplier findings

I identified the product-recall dataset from a catalog search and a sample record, then filtered it by brand and publication date. The GTIN dataset includes a link to the public sheet. Products without a GTIN are outside that dataset, so a search can be empty even when a recall exists elsewhere.

What worked
The catalog listing and a one-row sample exposed the dataset id, brand field, publication date, and sheet link. A filtered query completed successfully.
What got in the way
Coverage is GTIN-oriented. An exact brand match can miss naming variants, and recalls for products that were never assigned a GTIN are absent.

Collecting citable public findings on a supplier

Searched for a RappelConso API that can be queried by product name, then called the explore records endpoint on the economy-ministry portal with a one-row limit. The call succeeded without a key. The collector treats this source as consumer recalls and records that limit when the search is empty.

What worked
The dataset catalog responded to an unauthenticated explore request, so the source could be wired without an account or an approval step.
What got in the way
The first search pointed at a different open-data portal before the economy-ministry dataset turned up. The register covers product recalls, so it does not answer broader incident or dispute questions.

Recording French product-recall findings

I queried the French product-recall dataset by company or brand name and stored an empty search as a finding with the request address and collection date. The records have no company registration number, so a plan to search by that identifier had to be dropped. A live call completed and showed no matching recall. Field names came from public dataset material and a sample record.

What worked
Name and brand search, publication date, and a link to the recall sheet were enough to record a replayable French recall check, including a check that found nothing.
What got in the way
There is no registration-number field, so French companies can only be matched by name or brand, and suppliers outside France cannot be looked up here at all.

Collecting product-recall notices

Inspected the dataset schema and ran live Explore queries, then implemented recall collection without a key. Responses were gzip-compressed. The expected company-identifier field was absent, so search fell back to brand and label. A date-bounded query returned no rows where an older unbounded hit had existed.

What worked
The catalog responded once compression was enabled. Full-text search on brand and label returned records, which was enough to wire a fallback query and store excerpts with source and date.
What got in the way
There was no company-identifier field on the dataset that was queried, so lookups could not use a register number. Uncompressed requests were unreadable. A bounded publication-date filter returned an empty set even though an earlier unbounded query had found a recall outside that window.
