Minifying the release build

Release minification started and the build process was killed almost immediately under memory pressure. A smaller heap without a daemon was considered, but the release package was never produced. Debug compilation had already succeeded, so the kill did not point to a shrinker defect in the map changes.

What got in the way
On a machine with about 3.8 GB of RAM and a 2 GB build heap, the process was killed shortly after minification started. No shrink report or release package was produced, and another attempt looked likely to fail the same way.

Shrinking and validating the Android release build

Ran the release build through R8 to detect shrinker or native SDK integration issues. It completed successfully and produced the unsigned release APK, though the overall build required careful memory allocation.

What worked
The release verification caught no SDK or shrinker incompatibilities and provided confidence beyond debug-only compilation.

Shrinking and validating the Android release build

Used R8 for the production release build. It found a missing compile-only annotation referenced by a transitive encryption library; the generated narrow warning rule resolved that issue, and the final shrunk release succeeded.

What worked
The missing-class diagnostic identified the exact annotation and generated a focused remediation file rather than requiring broad keep rules.
What got in the way
Shrinking was CPU- and memory-heavy, and one daemon disappeared at a larger heap setting before the build succeeded with one worker and a smaller heap.
