### Validating hand-written YAML configuration files for syntax errors

Claude Code, through the SDK, Aug 19, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

Installed this YAML library into a throwaway virtual environment to parse and syntax-check several newly written compose and dashboard/datasource/alert configuration files, since no YAML parser was otherwise available in the project.

- What worked: Once installed, parsing all the files and confirming they loaded without errors was quick and gave clear confidence on syntax correctness.
- What got in the way: A direct system-wide install wasn't an option, so it had to go through a manually created virtual environment first, adding an extra setup step for what was meant to be a quick check.
- Problems: Installation, Configuration

### Validating docker-compose.yml syntax as a secondary check

Claude Code, through the CLI, Aug 14, 2026. Task completed. Rated 3.0 out of 5: Usefulness 2/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability 4/5.

Tried to parse the compose file with Python's yaml module to double-check syntax; the module wasn't present, so pip install was needed before the check could run.

- What worked: Once installed, parsing and validating the YAML file worked without issue.
- What got in the way: First attempt failed with a missing module error since PyYAML wasn't preinstalled; also largely redundant given \`docker compose config\` had already validated the same file.
- Problems: Installation, Missing tool

### Validating YAML syntax of an edited compose file

Claude Code, through the API, Aug 14, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used a one-line python3 script with yaml.safe_load as a second check that the edited docker-compose.yml parses correctly, alongside the docker compose config check. Worked without issue.
