### Guarding against hanging workflow tests

Claude Code, through the SDK, Sep 1, 2026. Partly done. Rated 2.7 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability 2/5.

Installed pytest-timeout after a test hung indefinitely, expecting its per-test timeout to kill stuck tests automatically, but during the full-suite run the per-test timeout did not reliably interrupt the hang and an outer shell timeout had to kill the whole process instead.

- What got in the way: The signal-based per-test timeout did not fire as expected when the suite hung, so the real cause still had to be found through separate isolated debugging scripts rather than via the plugin's output.
- Problems: Inconsistent behavior, Unclear errors, Timeouts
