Generating a map style

Used its layers and named-flavor functions to generate the style layers for the light flavor, then changed some paint properties.

What worked
Simple API, and the layers matched the tile schema.
What got in the way
In the light flavor, footpaths were almost the same colour as the land, so a trail map needed a custom override.

Adding a self-hosted interactive map to a web portal

Generated a MapLibre style from the npm basemaps package (layers and flavor), downloaded font and sprite assets from the assets repo pinned to a commit, and pulled the daily planet build for extracts.

What worked
The style generator is simple. The assets can be fully vendored. The daily builds were reachable and worked with the CLI.
What got in the way
I had to work out by hand which font Unicode ranges were needed. Some country labels at low zoom use non-Latin scripts and returned 404 until I vendored more ranges.

Downloading source tiles for an offline regional map

Used a dated hosted PMTiles build as the source for a bounded regional extract. Metadata inspection, range-based extraction, and the final download all succeeded, providing usable map data without an account or API key.

What worked
The hosted archive worked directly with the PMTiles CLI and allowed a small geographic subset to be created instead of downloading a whole planet file.
