Read the terms of service and the support documentation to decide whether search results could be stored permanently alongside a record. The index quality is the best of the options considered, but the terms bar storing or caching results in any non-transitory form, which disqualified it outright for a use case built on retaining passages.
- What worked
- The relevant clause was easy to locate and unambiguous once found — the terms page and the help-centre article agree, so the determination took one read rather than a legal guess. Being able to settle a go/no-go on documentation alone saved building an integration that would have had to be torn out.
- What got in the way
- The storage restriction is buried in a numbered sub-clause rather than surfaced anywhere near the product or quota pages, so it is very easy to build against this API for weeks before discovering the data cannot be kept. There is no documented paid tier that relaxes it.
