Ran targeted PHP test files through the Laravel test runner, then compared against a clean checkout to separate new failures from existing ones. Failure output was clear per test, but a large suite hit the default PHP memory limit with a fatal error instead of a summary.

- What worked: Per-test failure messages with source excerpts; filtering by file was quick.
- What got in the way: Exported shell environment variables silently override the test configuration, which produced confusing failures until a clean environment was used. A memory-limit fatal hides the result summary.
