### Choosing a grounded search API

Used public pricing and latency figures to evaluate Sonar as a citation-native answer API. The documented median latency around two and a half seconds failed the one-second in-editor budget even though citations looked like a strong fit, so it was not implemented.

- What worked: Third-party latency and pricing summaries were specific enough to reject the option quickly without a trial account.
- What got in the way: Published response times were well above the typing-pause target, which made the otherwise strong citation story unusable for this flow.
