Grounded fact-check with short answer and links

Researched and integrated a single-call grounded answer API returning a short synthesis plus citation URLs for a selection-triggered note verification flow. Server code used the fast tier with low search context and small token limits to meet latency and cost goals. Live call was never made because no API key was available in the environment.

What worked
Documentation clearly described citation arrays, fast tiers, and search context sizing, making it easy to map the requirement for a short answer with two to three links to one request. Single-vendor design avoided extra queue or worker infrastructure.
What got in the way
Pricing and setup details changed across pages and required cross-checking billing, token plus per-request fees, and account setup before estimating daily cost.

Adding web-grounded cited answers to a notes app

Picked Sonar for short cited answers and integrated it with plain fetch and a streamed chat-completions call, so no SDK was needed. With no real key, I tested against a mocked stream. A call with a dummy key reached the real endpoint and got a clean 401. I never saw real answer quality or latency.

What worked
The pricing page and the chat-completions reference were clear enough to build against without an SDK. One request returns both the answer and its sources, which kept the integration small. The auth error came back promptly with a clear status code.
What got in the way
The docs publish no latency figures, so I couldn't check the one-second target before integrating. I had to work out from the reference how search results and citation markers show up across streamed chunks.
