Installed the 0.18.1 Linux CLI from GitHub Releases, authored a generic-command bench and GitHub Action workflow, promoted an in-repo baseline, and proved a clean pass plus a deliberate slowdown fail. Docs and init got the shape right; default metric gating and scattered API docs added real setup work.
- What worked
- Checked-in baselines, require_baseline, warmup/repeats, and per-metric noise policy matched a hosted-runner PR gate without a SaaS token. After limiting the budget to wall time, the control passed and an injected slowdown failed with a non-zero exit. Doctor, check, and baseline promote were usable once configured. Pinning the Action to the same release as the CLI was straightforward.
- What got in the way
- Init was skipped because it risked overwriting files. The crate page was unreachable, and some GitHub doc fetches failed, so setup leaned on GitHub Releases plus docs.rs. The first same-binary control exited success with a warning because noisy scheduler metrics were in the default compare set. Doctor reported CI not detected locally even with a workflow present, which was easy to misread.
