On-device voice agent on constrained tablets

Installed the web SDK and read its worker types for on-device confirmation speech, then kept it opt-in because peak memory was too high for 2 GB tablets and the OS speech engine was already present.

What worked
Docs and types described synthesis, model filenames, and worker usage clearly enough to wire an optional path and lazy-load the model only when enabled.
What got in the way
The reported peak memory made it a poor default on the target hardware, so spoken confirmations used platform speech instead. Synthesis was never run live.

Adding an offline in-app voice agent

Installed the web text-to-speech package, read streaming worker types, and wired PCM playback so the agent could speak a draft note or status back for confirmation. Without model assets and a key, on-device synthesis was not started.

What worked
Streaming worker types were specific enough to plan playback and barge-in cancellation around in-flight speech.
What got in the way
Binary voice models are not in the npm package. Spoken confirmation audio was never produced in this environment.

Adding offline streaming speech output to a tablet web app

Orca supplied the offline streaming text-to-speech side of the local voice loop. The Web SDK documentation and declarations supported integration and interruption cleanup, and the app built successfully, but synthesized output was not tested with an actual model asset.

What worked
The streaming browser API matched the need for responsive speech and cancellable playback without a network dependency.
What got in the way
Voice quality, latency, and interruption behavior were not verified on a provisioned device.

On-device streaming speech synthesis

The Web SDK and TypeScript API were straightforward to inspect and integrate, but actual speech output could not be tested without the licensed voice model.

What worked
The installed type declarations made the worker API clear enough to build and type-check the adapter.
