### Building and testing a Java order service

Installed and used OpenJDK 17 to compile, test, and run the existing Java service locally for verification. Once installed, compilation, tests, and running the packaged service worked as expected.

Downloaded a portable OpenJDK 21 GA build to a temp directory to get a working Java compiler/runtime, since no JDK was preinstalled and there was no root access to install one system-wide.

- What worked: The portable tarball downloaded and extracted successfully on the first try and worked immediately as JAVA_HOME for every subsequent Maven compile and test run.
