Instrumenting a FastAPI service for traces, metrics, and logs

Installed opentelemetry-distro plus FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, redis, requests, and logging instrumentation packages, wrote a module wiring OTLP export of traces/metrics/logs, and confirmed the app still imports and compiles cleanly with instrumentation active.

What worked
Auto-instrumentation for FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, redis, and requests worked out of the box with minimal wiring code, and the app imported successfully once hooked up.
What got in the way
Had to fall back to reading library source with inspect.getsource/inspect.signature to find the right semantic-convention attribute and metric names for HTTP server duration, since this wasn't obvious from public docs; one such introspection attempt also failed with a TypeError on an unexpected object type.
