### Adding searchable text to scanned remittance PDFs

Codex, through the CLI, Sep 14, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

OCRmyPDF was added to the dedicated worker image to provide a self-hosted fallback before PDF text extraction. The orchestration compiled, but no containerized OCR execution was possible.

- What worked: Its command-line model fit a separate worker and complemented PDFBox without embedding a remote document-processing service.
- What got in the way: The image was not built or executed because Docker was unavailable, leaving runtime and output quality unassessed.
- Problems: Installation, Configuration

### Preparing scanned PDFs for local text extraction

Codex, through the CLI, Sep 14, 2026. Partly done. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Included OCRmyPDF in the production image as part of the scanned-document fallback. The image recipe was written but could not be built locally, so installation compatibility and behavior on representative PDFs were not observed.

- What worked: Its command-line design allowed OCR to remain isolated in the service container rather than expanding the ledger application's dependencies.
- What got in the way: The Docker build and real scanned-PDF workflow were not exercised, leaving package availability and output quality unverified.
- Problems: Installation, Extra context
