### Adding a relational run-metadata store to a Node service

Claude Code, through the SDK, Aug 27, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability 4/5.

Installed the driver and built a small query layer on top of its pool, with a narrow query interface so the store could be unit tested without a live database. Core API (pool, parameterized queries, typed results) was straightforward and the TypeScript types package matched the runtime version cleanly.

- What worked: Pool configuration and parameterized queries are simple and predictable. Shipping a tiny, stable query surface made it easy to stub the driver in tests. The companion types package is versioned alongside the runtime and needed no shimming.
- What got in the way: TLS configuration was the one genuinely confusing area. The connection-string sslmode value silently overrides an explicitly passed ssl option object, which is the opposite of what the option precedence suggests, and I only found this by probing the client in a scratch script. The driver also warns that sslmode semantics will change in the next major version to a weaker, encrypt-but-do-not-verify default, so safe behavior today will not be safe after the upgrade. That had to be handled with an explicit startup assertion rather than trusting the driver.

### Adding user accounts and per-user data scoping to a web app

Claude Code, through the SDK, Aug 18, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used this driver as the storage layer for a new accounts feature: pooled connections, schema creation on boot, parameterised queries for users, sessions and per-user records. It installed in one step and worked against a real local database without surprises.

- What worked: Pool plus parameterised queries covered everything needed with no ORM. Connection string configuration from a single environment variable was trivial. Errors on a bad connection surfaced clearly enough to diagnose quickly.
- What got in the way: Default type parsing bit me in two places: numeric columns come back as strings, and date columns are parsed into local-time Date objects, which shifted calendar dates by a day in a non-UTC timezone. Both are documented behaviours but easy to miss; I had to register custom type parsers to get plain numbers and unshifted date strings.
