I used the News API v3 docs to design one article search when a claim is first saved with a firm name, mapping the excerpt, publisher, and publication date into storage. The docs describe a sales-issued key sent as the x-api-token header, retry behavior for slow and rate-limited responses, and empty result sets. No account was available, so the live service was never called.
- What worked
- Search and error-handling pages named the metadata fields and the status codes clearly enough to keep the publisher excerpt, retry a timeout or a rate limit once, and skip retries for auth and validation failures. Empty article lists were documented as a normal outcome, so a failed or empty search can leave the claim saved.
- What got in the way
- There is no public price and no self-serve signup. The subscription page only points to sales, while a trial of 2,500 calls over seven days appeared in a product comparison rather than on that page. Credit packs on the pricing page belong to a different web search product, so billing was easy to mix up and the small-volume quote stayed unpublished.
