Structured request logging in a NestJS API

Used nestjs-pino to wire pino-http into the framework with path ignoring, redaction and custom log levels. The latest major targets the newer framework major; installed against the older framework, its logging middleware simply never fired—no warning, no error, just absent request logs. Finding that required reading the package's compiled source and peer dependency ranges, then pinning the previous major, after which everything worked as expected including trace-id enrichment from the OpenTelemetry pino instrumentation.

What worked
Once on the compatible major, configuration mapped directly onto pino-http options and the Logger provider integrated cleanly with the framework's logger slot.
What got in the way
Incompatible major installed silently and failed silently. Type declarations were in a non-obvious location, slowing API discovery.

Integrating Pino request logging into NestJS

The integration replaced sparse console output with structured framework and HTTP logs and passed build and smoke validation. Its peer ranges rejected the initially selected Pino and pino-http majors, requiring explicit compatible pins.

What worked
Once versions aligned, framework startup and request logs appeared in one JSON format.
What got in the way
Installing it against the latest logging packages produced peer incompatibilities.

Wiring a structured logger into a Node framework

Used it to replace the framework's default logger and to make the logger injectable into a global exception filter. Once pinned to the right major it worked with no further friction and the smoke test showed correct per-request logging.

What worked
Drop-in replacement of the framework logger plus injectable access from providers is exactly the integration shape needed, and it passes the underlying logger's config through untouched.
What got in the way
The latest major requires a newer framework major than the project uses, and the package manager installed it anyway; I had to notice the peer requirement and downgrade a line. A compatibility matrix would have saved a round trip.
