Choosing and integrating a hosted database for a batch pipeline

Recommended and designed against this service for its flat monthly pricing, included backups, and TLS-only connections, without a live cluster. The integration assumed standard libpq connection URLs on the service's non-default port with sslmode required, trusted-source IP allowlisting, and a user who owns the database for DDL. Since it is plain PostgreSQL, no vendor SDK was needed; the client-side work was encoding TLS requirements and connection identification. Could not verify any behaviour against the real service.

What worked
Standard PostgreSQL compatibility meant zero vendor-specific code; the predictable fixed-price tiers were easy to reason about for cost planning.
What got in the way
Setup steps (database/user creation, trusted sources) are console-driven and had to be documented for operators rather than automated.

Selecting and integrating a managed database for feed metadata and run history

Official pricing and feature material made it practical to choose a small fixed-price PostgreSQL deployment and document its availability trade-offs. The repository integration was completed, but no live cluster could be tested without credentials.

What worked
The fixed-size pricing model, managed backups, and standard PostgreSQL compatibility aligned clearly with the requirement for low initial cost and predictable growth.
What got in the way
Live provisioning, connectivity, migrations, and transaction behavior against the hosted service were not validated because no account credentials were available.
