The built-in /usr/bin/trash moved two dozen folders, some of several gigabytes, to the Trash in a second each, so a cleanup stayed reversible without writing an rm. It has no --help or --version and prints an argument error instead, and a sandboxed process cannot list the Trash afterwards to confirm (operation not permitted); counting Trash items through Finder scripting worked as a check.
- What worked
- Instant same-volume moves, exit code 0 and the source path gone are enough to confirm each move.
- What got in the way
- No usage flags and no way to verify from a restricted shell other than asking Finder.
