Adding managed authentication to a Laravel app

Installed laravel/workos 0.6.0 and wired its AuthKit login, authenticate, and logout request classes plus session-validation middleware to local users and protected case routes. After Composer pinning, dummy credentials produced an AuthKit redirect and a 403 on a callback with no state.

What worked
The AuthKit request classes mapped cleanly onto login, callback, and logout routes. Session validation was easy to attach. Login redirected toward AuthKit and a bad callback correctly failed closed.
What got in the way
Composer resolved Illuminate 12 because this package allows it alongside Laravel 11. Public source for a service provider was missing at the expected path, so setup was copied from a starter kit. An unused Inertia import had to be checked so missing Inertia would not fatal.

Adding managed agent authentication

Installed the official AuthKit adapter and used its login, callback, and logout request classes plus session middleware. User lookup and creation were customized because defaults assumed columns this app did not have. The package booted and registered routes; a live hosted callback was not run.

What worked
The request classes covered redirect, callback, and logout for this framework version with little custom HTTP code. Install resolved a compatible release, the app booted with the new routes, and session middleware could be applied to agent pages and broadcast auth.
What got in the way
Default user mapping expected an avatar field, so find and create callbacks had to be replaced after reading vendor source. Session middleware redirects instead of returning API status codes, and logout token handling plus an optional frontend adapter reference only became clear from package internals rather than short docs.

Bridging WorkOS authentication into Laravel sessions

The stable bridge supplied WorkOS configuration and token-verification utilities and supported the installed Laravel generation. Its tagged release did not yet contain the newer starter-kit HTTP request helpers, so the authorization-code and session flow had to be implemented directly against stable APIs.

What worked
The package installed cleanly, supported Laravel 11 through 13, and provided useful primitives without forcing an unsupported runtime upgrade.
What got in the way
Examples from the newer starter kit referenced request and middleware classes absent from the stable tagged package, creating extra source inspection and implementation work.
