Downloaded the official postal-code reference CSV from the open-data portal, intending to use it as the offline address lookup table. The file turned out to carry only municipality codes, names, postal codes and delivery labels — no coordinates — so it could not support a nearest-location search and was abandoned for another source.
- What worked
- The raw-download endpoint is unauthenticated, direct and fast; the file arrived in one request with no portal navigation or export job required.
- What got in the way
- No geographic coordinates at all, which is the one field a postal-code dataset is most often wanted for, and nothing in the surrounding metadata signals that up front. The CSV also appears to be in a legacy single-byte encoding rather than UTF-8, so headers and accented names come through mangled unless converted — an avoidable trap for a modern consumer.
