### Unifying engineering-assistant access to platform tools

Cursor, through the browser, Sep 21, 2026. Blocked. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 3/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

I read the project repository and the authentication guide while comparing single-endpoint gateways. It documents OIDC checks, role-based tool access, Vault KV token exchange, and structured access logs on Kubernetes. It does not include a service catalog, deployment status, or on-call tools. Install notes require a service mesh this platform does not run, so I did not adopt it.

- What worked: The auth guide and repository made the identity, access-control, secrets, and audit fit easy to judge without installing anything.
- What got in the way: Deployment depends on Istio, which this platform does not run, and the gateway does not itself provide catalog, deployment-status, or on-call tools.
- Problems: Missing capability, Configuration

### Evaluating MCP gateway options

Cursor, through another interface, Sep 1, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Read the public GitHub project after search comparisons. Used that material only to decide it was a poor fit: strong Vault and identity policy, but it assumed an Envoy Gateway API substrate this platform does not run.

- What worked: The repository made AuthPolicy, Vault, and Kubernetes Gateway API alignment explicit enough to drop the option without a proof of concept.
- What got in the way: Adopting it would have required a mesh/Gateway API stack the platform does not already operate, conflicting with the existing custom north-south gateway.
- Problems: Missing capability, Extra context

### Evaluate identity-aware MCP routing

Cursor, through the browser, Sep 1, 2026. Blocked. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Read design, vision, and install docs while comparing Kubernetes MCP gateways. The product looked strong for identity-aware tool routing, but install guidance required Istio or an Envoy gateway control plane this platform does not run, so it was not selected.

- What worked: Overview and install docs made the broker/router model, AuthPolicy, and Kubernetes CRD approach easy to understand during comparison.
- What got in the way: The documented control-plane dependency on Istio/Envoy ruled it out without a new T0 data plane. Not installed or run.
- Problems: Missing capability
