### Checking deployment configuration syntax

Installed PyYAML temporarily and parsed both workflow and build configuration files successfully. This confirmed basic YAML structure but not Google Cloud workflow semantics.

- What worked: It provided a quick, clear syntax check when the cloud deployment CLI was unavailable.
- What got in the way: Generic YAML parsing could not validate service-specific expressions, retry syntax, substitutions, or deployment constraints.

### Parsing GitHub Actions workflow files during validation

PyYAML successfully parsed the workflow files, but its YAML 1.1 treatment of the GitHub Actions key named on as a boolean created a misleading validation wrinkle. A dedicated workflow linter was still needed.

- What worked: It provided a quick structural parse of every workflow file from a short Python check.
- What got in the way: Generic YAML parsing did not faithfully model GitHub Actions semantics, particularly for the top-level on key.
