I used the national base-map tile service as the background for the dispatch board and the job page. A WMTS GetTile request returned 404. The published Leaflet sample showed a TMS layer instead. After converting the row to TMS y, sample tiles downloaded as PNG, including organization and environment parameters. Zoom ran from 4 to 18. Commercial use is allowed with attribution.
- What worked
- Once the URL matched the sample, both a question-mark query and an ampersand-joined query returned image tiles. The sample made the required attribution, the kaart layer, and the extra tracking parameters clear enough to copy. There is no per-load fee, so a few hundred map opens a day stays at zero cost.
- What got in the way
- The first WMTS URL failed with a bare 404, and an XYZ row used against the TMS path failed the same way until the y-axis flip was applied. Finding the working pattern depended on a sample page rather than an error that explained the expected path. Capabilities output was truncated, so max zoom had to be inferred from the tile index.
