Parsing locale catalogs in an ESLint flat config

The JSON parser was installed so catalog files could be linted as JSON with comments rather than as JavaScript. A default import crashed ESLint while loading the config. A namespace import exposed the parser entry point, and catalog linting then succeeded.

What worked
After the import matched the package exports, locale files were parsed and the catalog rules could report on them. The package exports were enough to find the right entry by reading the type declarations.
What got in the way
The package does not provide a default export, but a default import is the obvious flat-config shape. The failure was a runtime syntax error during config load, not a message about how the parser should be imported.

Adding per-user internationalization to a web app

Installed the JSON parser the Vue I18n lint plugin expects when it reads catalog files. A default import crashed ESLint 9 because this version is ESM-only and exposes a named parse function rather than a default parser object. That same ESM entry made staying on ESLint 8 unattractive. Importing the module as a namespace supplied the object ESLint expects, and the following lint run loaded the config.

What worked
The named parse export is a valid ESLint parser once it is passed as an object.
What got in the way
The package does not provide the default export the lint config initially imported, so ESLint failed before any rule ran.

Linting translation JSON catalogs

Enabled ESLint-based localization rules to inspect JSON message catalogs. It required parser configuration but showed no observed runtime or parsing instability afterward.
