Supplier press incident and difficulty research

Reviewed reader and page-fetch documentation as a possible extraction complement. Clear on fetching pages, but would have required pairing with a separate search provider, so it was not selected.

Live port and carrier news on shipments

Searched Reader pricing as a possible article-extraction layer after news search. Did not integrate it because the chosen news API already returned article text, summary, source, and time.

What worked
A short pricing search was enough to treat extraction as an optional extra rather than a required second vendor.
What got in the way
No API walkthrough was read in depth, and adding a second extraction hop would have duplicated fields already present on the selected search API.

Falling back when page extract fails

Implemented Jina Reader as the fallback when the primary extract call failed, with an optional API key. Official pricing was only checked via search, and no live fetch was performed.

What worked
The fallback slot was easy to isolate in its own module and to keep optional, so extract failures could still yield readable page text for citations without blocking local tests.
What got in the way
Reader quality, auth requirements, and cost were not observed. Pricing pages were not fetched directly, so the integration followed a conventional URL-to-markdown pattern rather than a verified live contract.
