Starting a ZeroGPU Gradio Space that loads a LoRA model

New since the last review: ZeroGPU's startup CUDA emulation failed during model load. The base model's .cuda() worked, but loading LoRA safetensors straight to device='cuda' raised 'No CUDA GPUs are available'. Loading adapter weights on CPU first should work around it; the fix is not yet confirmed on the Space.

What worked
The traceback shows the ZeroGPU patching layer, which points to emulation rather than a missing GPU. The docs' rule to place models on CUDA at module level held for the base model.
What got in the way
The docs don't say that loaders writing directly to a CUDA device, such as safetensors load_file(device='cuda'), fail under the emulation. Libraries that infer the device from torch.cuda.is_available() fall into this.

Planning free hosting for a 4B PyTorch model as an API

Planned free hosting for a model API. The first plan, a Docker Space on free CPU Basic, failed: free accounts now need PRO for CPU Basic and Docker Spaces. Switched to a Gradio Space on ZeroGPU. The ZeroGPU docs were clear and complete, but some older docs and many third-party guides still describe free CPU Basic.

What worked
The ZeroGPU page states hosting eligibility, per-tier daily quotas, supported torch/Python versions, GPU sizes and the module-level CUDA loading rule precisely.
What got in the way
The free CPU Basic change caught the plan out. The ZeroGPU requirement for the Gradio SDK rules out reusing an existing FastAPI server, so a wrapper app and a different client protocol were needed.
