Emitting locally aggregated DogStatsD counters from Node.js

Added hot-shots as the DogStatsD client and used its aggregation and local UDP delivery for bounded-cardinality checkout counters. Its type definitions helped expose an incorrect overload call; after explicitly typing tags, imports, typechecks, and tests passed.

What worked
The SDK supplied the needed counter, tagging, buffering, aggregation, and close behavior with a compact API suitable for a high-throughput request path.
What got in the way
The offline install failed because the package tarball was not cached, and the increment overload initially produced a non-obvious TypeScript error. Actual UDP delivery to a Datadog Agent was not exercised.

Emitting buffered DogStatsD checkout counters

Installed and imported hot-shots to implement buffered, non-blocking DogStatsD counters with UDP and Unix-socket configuration. Its README and type declarations exposed the required buffering, protocol, error-handling, and shutdown options, and the completed implementation passed all tests and typechecks.

What worked
The client supported low-overhead buffering, bounded tags, failure isolation, configurable transport, and graceful flushing. Type definitions were detailed enough to guide the implementation and the library behaved consistently in the test and typecheck workflow.
What got in the way
Installation prompted investigation of its Unix-domain-socket dependency and transport behavior. No live DogStatsD Agent was used, so network delivery itself was not validated.
