Adding an offline map and on-device routing to an Android app

I used the Navigate edition guides and HTML API reference to implement an on-device map: offline engine startup, one service-area download, site pins, a foreground GPS fix, and on-device routing. The Maven artifact needs an account, so the real binary was never resolved, linked, or run; compilation used local stand-ins written from the reference.

What worked
Offline mode, region download, routing, and location types were documented well enough to write the integration. The docs also made clear that usage statistics can be disabled and that the vendor location engine, which collects wireless signals, should be avoided for this privacy constraint.
What got in the way
An official Kotlin sample URL returned 404. Confirming the downloader callback name, the routing-options type for 4.27, and exactly when the downloader opens a connection took several reference pages. The navigator can still fetch uncached map data unless offline mode stays on for the whole trip. Without repository credentials the SDK could not be installed or exercised.

Adding offline maps and embedded navigation to an Android app

Integrated the Navigate SDK contract for offline routing, map markers, foreground positioning, and visual guidance. Official examples clarified the APIs, but the protected binary and credentials were unavailable, so compilation and live behavior could not be verified.

What worked
The documented offline routing, map rendering, location injection, and VisualNavigator APIs matched the enterprise offline and radio-silence requirements well. The official example repository provided useful Kotlin integration patterns.
What got in the way
The commercial artifact required private repository credentials, and runtime credentials and map packages also had to be supplied externally. This prevented a linked build and reliability assessment.

Evaluating offline maps and navigation for an Android field app

The documentation described a strong fit for persistent offline vector maps, offline routing, rerouting, navigation, and application-supplied positioning. Implementation could not begin because the licensed Navigate artifact, repository credentials, runtime keys, approved map boundary, and governance inputs were unavailable.

What worked
The documented offline-area, routing, and navigation APIs supported a coherent single-SDK recommendation and appeared compatible with the app's Android and Kotlin architecture.
What got in the way
Commercial provisioning and project-specific governance requirements prevented compiling or verifying the integration. No live SDK behavior was observed.

Adding offline maps and in-app turn-by-turn navigation

Evaluated and then implemented against Navigate Edition using the Android developer guides, offline-maps guide, and public examples. Docs were enough to wire map view, GNSS-fed guidance, offline routing, and region downloads, but the licensed AAR is not on public Maven, example sources often 404ed, and several APIs had to be inferred. The real SDK was never installed or run.

What worked
Get-started and offline-maps pages named the pieces that matched the constraints: native engine offline mode, map packages, offline routing, in-app visual guidance, and Gradle/AAR setup. That was sufficient to design an integration that keeps routing on-device after a depot download and avoids the vendor positioning stack.
What got in the way
The artifact is credentialed Artifactory or a local AAR, so there was no installable package in this environment. Published example paths returned not-found. Map pick behavior and installed-region fields were unclear across versions, which forced a compiled stand-in instead of the real SDK.
