Discovering weekly news stories

Fetched the public news-and-communications Atom search while checking live feed shapes, then kept a narrower government feed in the gather allowlist. The keyword search was usable as HTTP but too broad to be the weekly discovery source.

What worked
The Atom endpoint responded quickly with no key and was simple to inspect alongside other feeds.
What got in the way
Search keywords were combined too loosely, so the government search feed was too noisy for week-scoped charging stories and could not be treated as the primary finder.

Building a news discovery and quote-verification pipeline

Used its Atom feeds as the reliable spine of a discovery layer — both organisation feeds and a keyword-filtered news search feed. Verified all of them live; every one served real, current, well-formed entries.

What worked
Appending an Atom suffix to an organisation or search page URL just works, which means any filtered view of the site becomes a feed with no API key, no registration and no rate-limit anxiety. Keyword parameters carry through to the feed. Responses were fast, uncompressed-safe and parsed without quirks — easily the most dependable sources in a set where most publisher feeds were dead or blocked.
