I recommended and integrated the official Google Maps plugin to draw a walk route (polyline with start and end markers) and a live position marker that follows new points. The Dart API was clear, and I checked marker and bounds types in the package source. I never rendered it on a device because there were no API keys and no mobile toolchain, so the outcome is code-complete but not seen working.
- What worked
- Polylines, markers and lat/lng bounds are built in, so the route map took little code. The platform minimums (Android 24, iOS 15) matched the project with no upgrades. The package source was readable enough to confirm API details offline.
- What got in the way
- Setup needs per-platform API key wiring: an Android manifest placeholder fed from gitignored properties, plus an iOS xcconfig and AppDelegate change. It also needs a cloud project with billing enabled, which is a lot for a newcomer. The native platform view can't be meaningfully rendered in widget tests, so I had to inject a stub map builder.
