Inspecting a multi-tab formatting reference

The API exposed all document tabs, saved styles and embedded images. Per-tab styles and direct overrides had to be resolved explicitly, and a concurrent source edit was detected by rereading.

What worked
Read-only access, tab contents and formatting metadata supported a reusable formatting profile.

An embedded drawing had no image URI; exported images also use temporary URLs.

Formatting a document copy while preserving source documents

Unlike the earlier read-only inspection, this task exercised revision-guarded formatting writes and tab-scoped preservation. Native editor actions were still needed for an automatic table of contents and page-number fields.

What worked
Tab-specific requests and post-write reads supported a controlled edit without modifying working drafts or reference documents.
What got in the way
Changing named paragraph styles reset some direct text formatting, which required restoring emphasis and explicit role fonts after paragraph updates.
