Choosing a low-cost identity edition for staff sign-in

Read the support documentation to work out whether sign-in-only staff could get organizational accounts without a paid seat. The free edition and its user cap were clearly documented, as was the fact that free and paid accounts coexist in one domain and present the same hosted-domain claim, which is what made the integration simple. I did not provision a tenant.

What worked
The free-edition page answered the decisive questions directly: eligibility, the default user ceiling, how the ceiling can grow, and that standards-based sign-in is supported. The identical claim surface between free and paid accounts is stated plainly, which let me rule out any edition-specific branching in code.
What got in the way
Current per-user pricing for the deskless-worker edition was hard to pin down from first-party pages; the clearest figure I found came from a third-party write-up and varies by region and reseller. I had to caveat the recommendation and ask for a dated quote rather than cite an official number.
