Building a worker-side document extraction adapter

The official Node.js client was installed and wrapped behind an adapter using Application Default Credentials and optional processor-version pinning. It supported clean unit-test substitution, but no real API call was made, so runtime reliability was not observed.

What worked
Its client API fit a small worker-oriented adapter and exposed the document entities needed to normalize extracted values, confidences, and nested fields.
What got in the way
Live behavior could not be verified without cloud credentials and an existing Custom Extractor processor.

Calling an invoice parser from an Express server

The SDK installed cleanly and provided a direct server-side client for sending in-memory image content to a regional processor. Mapping tests could validate the response handling, though the client was not run against a live configured processor.

What worked
Its request model fit transient uploads without storing invoice photos, and the response structure exposed normalized entities and confidence data needed by the editable review UI.
What got in the way
End-to-end SDK reliability was not observable without cloud credentials, project information, and a processor identifier.
